Must-Do Moab
They say ‘Discover Moab again and again’... this little city has a lot to offer.
Moab is a city perfectly situated for outdoor adventure. It sits on the Colorado River for white water rafting fans, two National Park entrances are within a 45min drive for hikers, and if you are a cyclist then head to the Slickrock Bike Trail and you will be more than satisfied.
I booked accommodation in Moab as a purely logistical solution to completing the Mighty Five. I booked for 4 nights with the knowledge that following a full day’s hiking, I would just be content with a nice selection of restaurants to eat in.
What I found when I arrived on a warm and sunny April evening was one of the loveliest cities I have visited in America. Here are just 6 reasons to visit Moab.
Moab Diner
I adore a proper American Diner and this was one of the best!
Open daily from 6am, the menu was extensive, the food was delicious, the drinks were hot and the staff were brilliant. Bringing all of the 1950s vibes, the red leather booths and jukebox made you feel like you were in the movies.
I only ate here for Breakfast, not lunch, and I would recommend the ‘Islands in the Sky’ Biscuits and Gravy. Their gravy was beautifully thick and creamy with plenty of sausage meat whilst the biscuits were pillowy and substantial in size. It set me up for a wonderful day’s hike!

Back of Beyond Books
Open until 9pm every evening, this is a bookworm’s heaven. Stocking a wide variety of books, it was the local area’s books that I gravitated towards. National Parks books and stationery was also plentiful. The Young Persons literature section at the rear of the store was delightfully presented.
A wonderful store that took a lot of my money!

MOYO
Open until 10pm every evening, this frozen yoghurt parlour was a dream. Pick a tub, dispense your own soft serve and then head over to the toppings station. Gummi/chocolate/cereal treats, they were all there to make your own little pot of joy. You then head to the scales to tot up the cost and get your spoon.
It was so warm on the evenings in April that it was lovely to sit outside in the warm, dark evening to enjoy a cooling MOYO.

Mill Creek Parkway
This 1.5-2mile trail takes you from the centre of Moab out to a small waterfall. You can extend the walk beyond that if you wish but within that mile or two, you see some wonderful street art as you walk along the Creek path and under small road bridges.

Matrimony Spring
Approx. 2 mins north of “Welcome to Moab” sign you get to a junction, turn right and there is an immediate pull in for 2 to 3 vehicles. Within the rock to your right is a free flowing natural water source called Matrimony Spring.
You can drink it, fill your water bottle or just have a look at this natural source. The name comes from the folklore that drinking this water connects people. Couples will stay together but also adventurers who drink it will return to Moab. It connects them to area.

Fiesta Mexicana
If you want delicious Mexican food then look no further than this restaurant! The menu is extensive (the Combo Option takes away any stress that you might miss out on something) and the service is excellent.
This was the perfect way to fill your belly following a long day’s hike.

It is a thriving city; the high street has numerous shops, coffee shops, and restaurants.
There are souvenir shops but it is not excessive and you do feel that there are a variety of other shops to browse. If you do want to remember your time in the city that is the gateway to adventure, then I found the selection of souvenirs to be varied and nice quality.
