Abu Simbel Highlights

Share

Ramesses II had 50 wives in his lifetime but he truly loved one of them, Queen Nefertari. He loved her so much that when he built his Temple, he made a smaller one right next to it for her. Abu Simbel is another example of a Temple that has been moved as part of a UNESCO project to protect it. The Aswan High Dam and the resulting formation of Lake Nasser changed this area’s landscape. The Temple was only moved by a couple of hundred metres, but its precious location would now be completely underwater in Lake Nasser. In this location, it is safe and it is remarkably similar to the placement and final image of the original location. #Egypt #AbuSimbel #Temple #RamessesII #nile #roadtrip #Aswan #ancientegypt | The Organised Explorer
