Exploring the Republic of Užupis in Vilnius
On the East Bank of the Vilnia River, lies the Republic of Užupio. There are 3 rules that are displayed on the sign as you cross the river to ‘border control’. 1. Smile 2. Speed limit is 20km/hr 3. Admire the art Užupis has lots of street art and sculptures. There is also an entire wall dedicated to the Constitution. It is displayed in a great number of languages. As you cross the bridge, you pass ‘border control’. Here you can stamp your passport (well, that’s not too sensible, so I stamped a notepad that I have). You can also exchange money for their ‘currency’ (Euros are accepted everywhere, you don’t have to do this) and you can send postcards from this Republic. This area is wonderful to walk around as there is lots of public art, crafty shops and great cafes and restaurants. #vilnius #lithuania #uzupis #republic #streetart #statue #uzupiorespublika #visitvilnius #visitlithuania
