Riding the Durango and Silverton Heritage Railway
The historic Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad in Colorado 🚂. This steam train and route were built in the 1880s to service the mining communities in the area. It is now a heritage route. The interiors of the prestige carriages are original and have been wonderfully preserved. I was lucky to be in the Alamosa Carriage and we were at the rear of the 16 car train. This meant that we had access to the rear observation deck of the train and had a fantastic view of scenery. The route is still on the ‘Winter’ timetable so this was a 5 1/2 hour journey from Durango to Cascade and back again. There was a lunch stop at the Canyon where we were able to relax by the Animas River and stretch our legs. The views through the San Juan National Forest were spectacular. The total distance was 52 miles and it was an incredible experience ♥️ 📍Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Colorado, USA #Colorado #visitusa #durangosilvertontrain #Durango #train #trainjourney #railroad #TrainTracks
